Nam Lod Thepnimit Cave
Location: - 10.3769339, 99.0116274
Nam Lod Thepnimit Cave is located within the grounds of Nam Lod Thepnimit Bureau of Monks, 38km south of Chumphon Town. Head west out of Chumphon town on Road 327 and then Road 4 towards Ranong. Some 14km along Road 4 turn left onto Road No 2005 (there's a Police booth on the right). Follow Road 2005 for about 13Km where you then take the road to the right, signposted to Ban Hadprik. 5km along this road you should see the road up to the cave.
This road up to the cave runs in a valley, very picturesque.
The road ends right at the cave entrance.
The entrance of the cave is very large and this area has been made into a place of worship.
This entrance area is funnel shaped, where at the back it narrows considerably. Here the floor of the cave has subsided about 20m down to what used to be a stream. The Monks have provided a bridge across this drop to allow further access of the cave. On the other side of the bridge is a door which they keep locked. If venturing further you need the Monks to open.
Beyond the door you are in a narrow tunnel with a high roof. Very few formations are found in this part of the cave. For 20 m past the door you are on a concrete path until you reach what looks like a cave- in. It is possible to climb over but we stopped because it was very wet and extreamly slippery.
What made the floor even more slippery was a good coating a bat poo. The Monks keep the door locked to stop people taking the bat droppings so in places it is quite thick. And its the reason for venturing past the door for there are 100's of bats in the loft.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0073.
Information found on Nam Lod Thepnimit Cave refer to it as a through cave with a stream. Even on a visit during the rainy season we found no water flowing. The stream bed can be found to the left of the main entrance at a lower level.
10m in, the passageway becomes silted up and you can progress not further.
