Ko Phitak
To reach the island of Phitak is by way of the pier at Ao Thong Khrok. Ao Thong Khrok is some 80km south of Chumphon town. Take Highway 41 for some 50km til you reach the Khao
Pip intersection (a Tesco store is on the right just before the
intersection). Turn left at the intersection taking Road No. 4096, heading east to Pak Tako. After about 10km turn right at the cross roads and then left after 500m onto Road No. 4012 heading for Lang Suan. After about 20km there will be a road to the left which is sign posted for the pier.
Visiting the island in June you will experience very low tides making it possible to walk across.
However you can go to the island anytime as it is regularly serviced by long-tail boats.
Even with wading through the water it took us no more than 30 minutes and the water only comes up to your knees at the deepest parts.
The island is well shaded by trees which proved a rather pleasant change after the walk in the sun. A pathway runs round the island.
On the east facing side of the island you will find this large white Buddha.
Steps take you up the side of the hill.
The steps take you to what the locals have named 'Sunrise Viewpoint'.
Even if the clouds mess-up your sunrise you can still enjoy the views.

Fun Run
Every year in June when there are the very low tides, in association with a full moon, a mini marathon and a fun run is organised to the Island. The mini marathon starts from the HTMS Chakri Naruebet Replica in Pak Nam Lang Suan and the fun run is from Ao Thong Khrok. You have to be up early as the runs start at 6:00am.
It is extremely popular. Must have been over 1000 people entered in the fun run in 2019.
Considering the number of people, the event is well organised. For your entrance fee of 300 Baht (2019) you get an event shirt, competitors medal, breakfast at the start, water stops along the way and food/drink on the island.
