Khao Lan Caves

Location 10.2634741 99.1743313
Khao Lan Caves are located within the grounds of Wat Tham Khao Lan and are 55Km south of Chumphon town. Take Highway 41 for 40km til you reach the junction on the left for the 4003 to Sawi. In Sawi town you have to turn right at the traffic lights and continue for 13km along the 4003 til a junction to the left.
2km along this road to the left you will see the temple on the right.
There are three caves at this temple and they are located behind the Ordination Hall at the foot of the hill. The cave by which this temple gets its name (this I have assumed as it is the cave with the most religious items within) is located up some 20 stone steps beside a sitting Buddha under an awning.
You enter into one large cavern which goes into the hill some 15m. Sadly all very rundown and nothing of interest. However it is worth crawling through the small hole to the left of the Buddha statue.
Through the hole a tunnel leads you to a maze of passageways and small chambers.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0043.
You come out about 30m east of the steps where it is possible to climb down back to the temple.
A second cave can be found behind the shrine which is located some 50m up the hill. Access is by way of the steps up to the shrine.
The cave can be clearly seen from the Shrine. It is a through cave, rather short (about 10m) and has nothing of note. Other than the kettle hanging at its entrance. Not sure what that is about!
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0118.
The Shrine in well elevated offering a good view to the south across the plantations.
The third cave is directly below the shrine and its small opening can be found halfway up the steps.
Again this cave is a warren of passageways and small chambers.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0119.
One thing of note whilst exploring these caves was that it looked like they had suffered from an earthquake. Large sections of rock had broken off and in one place noticed it had even sheared.
