Ao Bo Mao Beach
Ao Bo Mao Beach is 40Km from Chumphon town. Take road No. 3180 out of Chumphon Town.
After
21km turn right onto road No. 3201 which forms part of the "Scenic
Route". You will see these signs along the road.
Follow the "Scenic Route" on roads 3201 and 4004. About 4km along Road 4004, just after the Laem Thaen headland the road follows the complete length of the beach.
Ao Bo Mao means Spring Tree in Thai, said to be a traditional source of pure fresh water. Sadly due to Bang Mun river flowing into the Bay my experience is that the water is never clear. However if you are into collecting shells I have found no better place.
Ao Bo Mao is a long crescent shaped sandy beach. In the trees lining the beach you will find restaurants providing pleasant places to enjoy the scenery.
If you are looking for a place to swim with cleaner water I would suggest you try Thung Sang Beach which is 12km north of Ao Bo Mao Beach, still on Route 4004.
