Gaeo Cave

Location: 10.453595, 99.042568
Gaeo Cave is 26km from Chumphon Town and close to Monthip Fish Park. Some 14km along Highway 41, south from Chumphon town, take the junction turning right towards Khun Krathing. Follow this road for 6km and turn left heading for Tham Sing. Go along this road for 1.5km and turn right (follow the signs for the Fish Park). Some 3km along this road turn right at the tee junction and follow this for about 1km till you see an old faded concrete signpost on the left.
From here the way to the cave is on foot down the pathway in front of the sign. I should point out here that you have to climb over the mountain to get to the cave and the route is not easy. Bamboo and fallen trees block the path and leaves making the going slippery. Of all the caves in Chumphon that I've visited this one by far has the hardest approach.
The cave once had lighting in it so the best way to find it is to follow the electric cables.
Gaeo Cave is big and from the entrance it descends steeply for about 100m.
When you reach the bottom the main cave shaft goes to the left where it opens up into a large cavern where featuring on the right is a large travertine terrace, some 8m in height.
As we walked through the cave we did not notice any bats other than in one small side passageway opposite the terrace.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0160.
Continuing through the cave it eventually leads out to another opening into a sink hole.
Thanks goes to my friend Rob for finding this place. 👍
