Khao Nang Cave

Location: 9.816497, 99.071690
Khao Nang Cave is 85km south of Chumphon town. Travel down Highway 41 for 84km and take the turning on the left just after the shelter. The turning is not easy to find, took us two attempts.
From the turning Nang hill is about 500m on your right just as the concrete road turns to the left. You should see a track on your right and this leads you right round to the cave entrance which is on the eastern side of the hill.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0146.
Found out about the cave from a couple of online news reports - newsreportchumphoninsideonline and thairath.
When you enter the cave through the triangular opening you will find a large dome shaped cavern. On a raised area at the back, wood and cloth have been used to make a sort of shrine.
Venturing to the left you will find a passageway that takes you further into the hill.
You climb up to what looks like a big hallway.
At the top of the climb, to your right, is a small passageway leading though to another large domed shaped chamber. The floor drops away quickly so it is not possible to explore this area without specialist equipment. Being totally dark it provides a great place for 100's of bats to live. Sadly they were very camera shy!
The passageway ends in large chamber.
Throughout the cave the walls are a mix of colours and it was only really possible to see the full effect when studying the photos afterwards.

Nature Trail

The hill is small and takes no more than 20 minutes to walk all the way around. Loads of wild plant life, including what looked like passion fruit. A local we saw said they were apples 😀
