Phu Khao Thong Cave

Location 9.9266972, 99.0712907
Phu Khao Thong Cave is 72km south of Chumphon Town. Take Highway 41 south from Chumphon town for some 70km and turn left onto the road just after the Tesco Store.
500m down this road you come to a tee junction in front of a pond. Turn right here and follow the road round keeping the hill to your left. After just over 1km you should come to the cave.
A series of steps takes you up to a large overhang where you will find some images of Buddha.
The entrance to the cave is rather small and can be found next to an image of Buddha, to the left of the blue steps.
You first enter a small chamber of about 5m across and on the ceiling you find a nice collection of stalactites.
At the far end of this chamber there is a low passageway through to a larger chamber of about 25m across. In the roof is a chimney. Would guess it goes to an opening as bats were flying up it.
Of the three chambers found in this cave it was this chamber that the bats resided.
At the end of this chamber is a natural stone archway that takes you through to an even larger chamber.
This chamber is big, a least 50m long by 20m wide with a 10m ceiling height.
As you go through the opening the first thing you notice is this stalagmite with its stalactite above. The stalagmite had coloured robes wrapped round it which would guess is paying respect to the spirits of the cave. Similar to the coloured robes you find wrapped around some trees.
On the eastern side of this chamber can be found this impressive stalactite.
When we first visited this cave a Monk kindly guided us through. He pointed out that this stalactite was hollow and by banging on it's side made the a sound. It was like a large temple bell and banging at different places the sound changed.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0091..
