Pla Cave
Pla Cave are 54km south of Chumphon Town. Take Highway 41 south from Chumphon town for some 50km til you reach the Khao Pip intersection (a Tesco store is on the right just before the intersection). Turn left onto road 4096 and after 3.5km take the road to the left at the crossroads.
500m up this road you will see a large fish pond to your left. The cave is on the opposite side of the pond behind the shack you can see from the road.
It is not possible to drive round the pond so you must find a place to park-up on the road and walk. Its a nice walk and you can see loads of fish in the pond.
There is a building on the north eastern corner of the pond where a Monk lives. He kindly offered to show us around. Sadly on our first visit in January 2019 we found the first cave flooded.
We could see that this was not a seasonal flooding but more the case of water coming from the pond. They have actually constructed a sump to be able to pump out the water. Sadly we did not have the right footwear to enter the cave so decided to put that off for another visit.
On a second visit in May 2019 we found the water in the big pond lower and the cave dry inside.
The cave is not that big, going back into the hill about 10m. A Buddhist shrine can be found on a slightly raised area.
On the cave wall to the right are some nice coral shaped stalactites.
The 'Caves & Caving in Thailand' website has referenced this as Cave No. CP0136. A second cave, referenced as Cave No. CP0140, is said to be located about 20m above this first cave. Despite having a good look could find no pathway or sign of a cave. Sadly on our second visit there was no Monk to ask for assistance.
The area around the pond is very scenic.
