Khao Liao

Khao (hill) Liao is located in the northern part of Chumphon and is one of the first landmarks you see when entering the Provence by road. From Chumphon town, travel north on Highway No. 4 for 60 km. It is difficult not to spot the big monk on the hill top from the highway.

At the base of the hill you will find a temple complex with a large stairway taking you to the top. It is well constructed and being of even height steps makes the climb easy.

At the top of the stair is a courtyard surrounding a 10 meter tall golden statue of a monk. 

The monk statue sits on a table and at the corners are animal legs. Not sure what animal this portrays, possibly a turtle.  

From the top of the hill you get a good view looking towards the north other highway No 4 and  plantations.
