Laem Thaen Headland

Laem Thaen Headland is 39 Km from Chumphon Town. Take road No. 3180 out of Chumphon Town. After 21 km turn right onto road No. 3201 and then a right turn onto the 4004 after 13 km. 5 km, along the 4004, just before a bridge is a road to your right which takes you up to the headland. A brown sign shows the way.
On the headland are a number of small building. When we last visited (January 2022) it was mid week so maybe at weekends these are food stalls. The toilet block was open.
The best view looking eastwards is from where the statue of the Prince of Chumphon, Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, 28th child of King Rama V.
The island in the distance is Ko Khai.
After the buildings are stairs that take you down to the beach. Not really suitable for swimming as it is very rocky. Also if you want to explore the beach make sure you come when there is a low tide for the sea comes right up to the base of the stairs.
At the tip of the headland a sandbank has formed. Some trees have established themselves here.
From the headland you get a good view of Ao Bo Mao Bay.
Nice shaded seating areas have been provided all along the headland.
Plus you will find that 'stuff' for your Instagram moment.

  1. I did not see the stairs. I basically drove to the top and then parked on the side of the road next to the statue and took my pics.

    1. The stairs are at the northern end of the parking area. Near where the red car is parked in the photo above. Didn't miss anything, not a great beach.
