Khao Phang Viewpoint

Khao Phang Viewpoint is 12 km northwest of Chumphon Town. Take Route 360 for 6 km and then turn left onto Route 1001. After 5 km take the road to your right, a blue sign indicates to Khao Pang Forest Park. 1 km along this road you should see the track to the viewpoint on the left.
The track to the ridge of Khao Phang is steep in places and has been in a bad condition for a number of years. Only suitable for high clearance 4 x 4 vehicles. See the photo album for pictures of the track! It is however possible to get driven to the viewpoint.
Our suggestion is to walk up the track. Even at a slow pace and stopping to take photos at the many nice viewpoints along the way it does not taken more than one hour. A good place to park the car is a small lay-by just after where the electricty lines cross the track.
On the walk up it does not take long before you are at an elevation higher than Wat Uthaitham Viewpoint which can be just made out in the distance.
As you continue up the track you will eventually come to a blue sign providing details of Khao Phang Paragliding. The viewpoint is just to the right of this sign.
The viewpoint is on the ridge and about in the center of Khao Phang. It is possible to view east and west. The view to the east looks over plantations however the mountains in the distance block seeing the sea.
The view to the west is looking down onto the Asia Highway (Route No. 4) where you are right over the large service area of Khun Sarai.
A platform has been built on this side of the ridge.
If you venture further along the track you will come to the abandoned TV relay station.
Now not too sure if this is allowed but the views from the roof of this building are the best. You can see through to the sea.
And across to Chumphon Town
Found this rather nice aerial photo of the Khao Phang looking north from the relay station.
