Khao Kuan Ta Noi Viewpoint

Khao Kuan Ta Noi Viewpoint can be found some 97 km south of Chumphon town. Take Highway 41 from Chumphon town for some 47km till you reach the Khao Pip intersection (a Tesco store is on the right just before the intersection). Turn right at the intersection onto road No. 4139 heading towards Khao Thalu. After 13km turn left onto road No. 4014, directions towards Tham Thip Prida. 11 km along this road you come to the crossroads in the town of Khao Khai. Here turn right onto the 4014 and after 1 km turn left, just after crossing a river bridge. From here just follow the signs to the viewpoint.
It should be noted that whilst the road is suitable for a salon car the final part is single track and very steep. If you don't like having to deal with oncoming cars on steep narrow roads (like me) best to park up where the concrete 2 line road ends and walk up. It is about 1km to the viewpoint from here and you can leave the car in the shade of some palm trees.
Within 200m of the car parking area you already start to get some nice views.
About halfway up is a small offshoot plateau where you get a good view over the town of Khao Khai. This plateau is covered in long reed grass and with our visit being during the dry season was all brown, like a wheat field.
From the plateau the road continues to twist up the mountain.
You come to another plateau which is just sort of the viewpoint.
You have nearly a 360 degree panorama. The view to the north follows the ridgeline of the Khao Thalu mountain.
The view south eastwards.
At the viewpoint is a restaurant. Certainly a nice view while you eat.
