Hat Phankrai Viewpoint

Hat Phankrai Viewpoint is located on the mountain behind Wat Hat Phankrai and is 12Km from Chumphon town. Take road 1001 heading north west out of Chumphon and the entrance to the Wat is 11km along this road to the left.
Follow the concrete road till it ends where there are two small buildings.
There is nice shaded parking here under one of the largest trees we have seen in Chumphon.
If you walk through the building with the orange roof you will find a stone stairway which leads up to a cave.
To the left of the cave there is a series steel staircases and walkways which lead up the hill.
On our last visit (14 May 2021) we found the stairway a little overgrown so do take care.
Halfway up is a rest stop where you have a view looking eastwards over the town of Chumphon.
Certainly a nice climb up and the bamboo offers good shade from the sun.
The last part of the climb is on the rocks. A handrail provides support as can be a little slippery with all the fallen leaves.
You finally come out onto a viewing platform which is on the southern side of the hill just short of the summit.
You get a good view towards the south as the top photo shows and just to the right of the hill you can make out the stupa on the hill beside Wat Uthaitham.
Looking westwards you get a good view of Khao Phang.
