Thung Kha Bay
The shoreline of Thung Kha Bay has no easy access with it primarily being mangrove forest. At its northern extent is the Khao Phang Pang Headland where there is the Mangrove Forest Nature Trail. The bay curves round to its southern extent at Ban Searb Yourn.
Between these two places there is only one location to access the shoreline, being where there is a small rock hill.
This access to Thung Kha Bay is 26km south of Chumphon town. On Highway 41 (Asian Highway 2), some 10km after the Thung Kha PTT gas station, take Road 2010 to the left (opposite the big Golden Buddha). Travel down this road for 4km and take the road on the left just after Wat Choeng Kra.
This road ends at Thung Kha Bay.The beach here is not sandy but rock. Not really suitable for swimming, more for exploring the rock pools and taking in the scenery.
As you walk over the rocks you will notice a red strata. Not a geologist so do wonder what this might be. Certainly looks like it was molten at one time.
Could be associated with the red rocks found at Hat Pha Daeng beach which is only 17 km away. Anyhow whatever it is, it gives a nice staining to the surrounding rocks. The rocks are the reason why there is a gap in the Mangrove forest for they prevent the trees taking root. Even the few ordinary trees seem to have an issue with this.
There are still mangroves here to find.Thung Kha Bay with its mangrove forest must attract a lot marine life for there were a lot of cormorants in search for their supper. And the human kind also!
