Sing Cave Overhang

Location : 10.4272121, 99.0572544
Sing Cave Overhang is found in the grounds of Tham Sing Subdistrict Non-Formal Education Department some 24km south of Chumphon Town. 14km along Highway 41 take the junction turning right towards Khun Krathing. Follow this road for 6km and turn left heading for Tham Sing. Go along this road for 3km til you reach a T junction. Turn right and the entrance to the Education Department is 100m on the left.

Originally this area of Chumphon was dense forest with the first pioneers using a cave for shelter. The cave got named "Sing" because the of a lion-shaped stone. We have always thought this to be the cave found behind the giant lions head in Wat Tham Sing, see separate blog. At the end of that cave there is a stalagmite with a Monk's robe rapped round it which the locals consider is scared.
However at the top of the stairs at what we have called Sing Cave Overhang can be found a lion-shaped stone that has been made into a place of worship. Currently unsure which location is actually Sing Cave.

The steps up to the overhang can be found at the end of the parking area.

At the base of the steps is a statue to Uncle Phuan Silpasorn one of the first pioneers (1957).
Halfway up the stairway you are greeted by this statue of a lion.
At the top of the stairs you find the stone lion and a small shrine.
Have named this Sing Cave Overhang (until corrected by others) so as not to get it confused with the cave at Wat Tham Sing. However, its maybe a little bit more than just an overhang for certainly looking outwards it gives impression of a cave.
Not many formations to be seen but the rocks do present some lovely colours.
