Dan Sawi Tour

A little of the beaten track Dan Sawi is a coastal sub-district of Sawi were you will find beaches, caves, viewpoints and places to interest.

Sawi is primarily a farming area where crops of durian, rubber, palm and coffee are grown. However in Dan Sawi you will also find fishing villages, shrimp farms and coconut plantations.

First to get there. Dan Sawi Sub-Distrct is 54 Km south of Chumphon town. Take Highway 41 for 40 km till you reach the junction on the left for the 4003 to Sawi. In Sawi town you have to turn right at the traffic lights and continue for 13km along the 4003 which takes you right into Dan Sawi.

Khao Lan Caves

Khao Lan Caves are located in the grounds of Wat Khao Lan. There are three caves which are found behind the Ordination Hall at the foot of the hill. The cave by which this temple gets its name is located up some 20 stone steps beside a sitting Buddha under an awning. Inside the cave you will find a maze of passageways and small chambers. A second cave can be found behind the shrine which is located some 50m up the hill. The Shrine in well elevated offering a good view to the south across the plantations. The third cave is directly below the shrine and its small opening can be found halfway up the steps.

Ban Searb Yourn Viewpoint

At Ban Searb Yourn you have a lovely view out into Thung Kha Bay. Around the headland there is a small bay with a sandy beach. If you are looking to go for a swim this would be the best place. This area is roughly the southern extent of the Thung Kha Bay Mangrove Forest Park so you will find a number of mangroves growing along the shoreline. The local community have created an area to buy food and drink. Normally just operated at the weekend for during the week the place is very quiet.

Ban Bo Kha Fishing Village

Ban Bo Kha is a nice little fishing village in old style Thai buildings. Take care as you drive through the village as the road is very narrow. In the middle of the village is a Chinese Temple and Shrine, Chao Pun Sao.

4 Bo Kha Headland/Beach

After you have driven through the village of Ban Bo Kha and you come to this rather nice headland. It is possible to go swimming here but it is a little bit rocky. There is a nice walk along the breakwater.

5 Tong Tom Fishing Village

At Tong Tom Fishing Village you will find a statue of two seahorses. There are a number of homestays here and the fishermen also do boat trips out to the islands. We have done 2 such trips starting in Tong Tom - Trip 1 and Trip 2.

Tong Tom has a beach which is found by taking the path round the headland past the seahorses.
It is a curved sandy beach between two headlands. Trees line the beach which offer shade and a nice place for a picnic. As there are no places to buy food or drink here its best to stock up at the fishing village.

Lok Phae Beach

Lok Phae Beach is a curved sandy beach between two headlands. Trees line the beach which offer shade and a nice place for a picnic. As there are no places to buy food or drink here its best to bring a picnic.

Lokkam Bay

Lokkam Bay is 400m of sandy beach between two rock outcrops. At the eastern end of the beach is a lovely big tree offering shade. This is good place to setup. And with no shops or restaurants nearby it normally means you have the beach to yourselves. There’s great snorkeling around the eastern headland. My favorite beach in Chumphon!

Ao Khram Headland

At Ao Khram Headland you get a great view across Thung Kha Bay. There is also a homestay and a small fishing village here.
